WOMEN living in the forested area of Lima Sands, Region Two will become more financially independent when a building housing a bakery is completed.
The women had reached out to the Ministry of Social Protection for assistance to help them earn a livelihood.
The Ministry of Social Protection, under its Sustainable Livelihood and Entrepreneurial Development Programmer, in collaboration with the Region Two Administration, is constructing the building.
The women’s group has already started to bake but members are currently using another location. When the building is completed, it will offer the women a more comfortable and spacious baking area.

Region Two Regional Executive Officer (REO), Denis Jaikarran, recently met with members of the group and went to the location to see the land that will be used to construct the building. The plot of land was already identified.
According to Regional Engineer, Kawan Suchit, construction of the building will commence in late October and will conclude in December.
The women, having heard the great news, said the Christmas will be bright for them. Thus far, they are baking bread and cakes for the local market.
“We are happy for this venture, it keeps the women occupied, especially the single mothers. We reach up and bake and we make money,” one group member, Marcie James, said.
