Over 200 East Berbice children benefit from back-to-school drive

OVER 200 children from the Bush Lot Adventure, East Berbice, Corentyne catchment area received backpacks, electronic tablets, a laptop computer, and stationery at the recent launch of the Brandon and Yvonne Kyte Foundation.
The foundation also awarded prizes and certificates to 12 top performers from Kildonan Primary, who excelled at the recent National Grade Six Assessment.

Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle, President of the foundation, Athene
Kyte-Savory, said the aim of the foundation is to promote education. She explained that the foundation was formed in honour of their parents who were very staunch believers in education.
Brandon and Yvonne Kyte want to continue along that path and at the same time give back to their community. Kyte-Savory further noted that she will continue the initiative annually and in the future will expand to other communities.

In addition, she said some parents find it difficult to purchase all the necessary items for school and the foundation wants to help them.

She said access to resources assist children tremendously as it is vital to their education.
Meanwhile, top student of Kildonan Primary School, Daniel Quintin, was awarded a place at the New Amsterdam Secondary School. He received a laptop computer, cash incentive and a certificate, among other items.
Quintin was grateful for the recognition and encouraged other students to do their best in order to excel. The children were also treated to an afternoon of songs, feast and entertainment.
