Bourda market vendors ‘sentenced’ to hours of community service

TWO vendors of Bourda Market, accused of assaulting each other in a fight, were, on Wednesday August 21, 2019, arraigned before Senior Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

It is alleged that James Brown of Mahaica Village, on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Karon Whyte of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara. Brown pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Meanwhile, Karon admitted to assaulting Brown to cause actual bodily harm on the same date in question.

Police Prosecutor noted, that the two had a misunderstanding, where Whyte armed herself with a piece of wood and proceeded to hit Brown about the arm and chest.
A medical report provided, showed that Brown sustained soft tissue injury and abrasion to his right forearm and palm.

The Senior Magistrate pleaded with the two to live in love and learn to compromise. The pair was sentenced to 10 hours of community service and is to return to the court on September 6, 2019.
