A MOTHER of three is left to fend for herself after her husband, 34-year-old Orlando Ramnarine, was electrocuted during a fishing trip at Coverden, East Bank Demerara, on Monday.

As Guyanese joined their Muslim brothers and sisters in the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha, the Ramnarine family was left to mourn the loss of their sole breadwinner.

“It all happened so fast… I don’t know what I’m going to do now… the day started so well,” said Ramnarine’s distraught wife, 22-year-old Aronva Parmanand, in an invited comment.
The father of three, who was a construction worker, took his family on a fishing trip to a farm, at Coverden, which is overlooked by Parmanand’s father.

Parmanand recounted that while everyone was having fun, Ramnarine went to throw his “cast net” in a nearby trench on the farm.

Dead: Orlando Ramnarine

“He throw the cast net and like it hook on a livewire that was hanging from an electrical poll…all we see is he start shaking up and then he fall on the ground,” she said.
After Ramnarine fell to the ground, Parmanand’s brother, Oneil Parmanand, who was also on the trip, went to see what happened to Ramnarine.

“I went and I hold de man and like I get a shock and that is when we realise that this man get shock up,” said Oneil, adding that Ramnarine died on the spot.
Aronva said she was left baffled because it all happened so quickly and she did not even know her husband was dying in front of her.

She said after the incident occurred, they called in the farm owner who told them that the hanging livewire was reported to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) on several occasions.
Moments after the incident happened, staff of GPL arrived at the scene and cut the hanging wire.

“GPL arrived before the police so we were a bit suspicious about what was happening,” said Aronva, adding that they notified the police about what happened.

The man’s wife said she was still trying to process what happened because the family usually goes to the farm for recreation yet something so tragic happened.

“I don’t know what I gone do now… my husband used to bring in the money… I can’t work because I have three young children who don’t stay with nobody else,” said Aronva.
The woman was so distraught that she could not stay alone at her home in Sarah Johanna. She said she will be staying with her family for a few days.

The mother of three said she would welcome any help that persons can offer. Persons interested in making a donation to the family can make contact with Aronva aka Samantha on 682-6868.
