Soesdyke to get community playground

LAND has been purchased for the establishment of a Community Playground in Soesdyke, on the East Bank of Demerara.

This announcement was made by Region Four Councillor, Leslie Glasgow at the Government Community Meeting which was held at the St Mary’s Secondary School, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara on Thursday.

Additionally, there is the provision for a night school in the community to cater for early school leavers. Such persons would get the opportunity to become involved in skills training and endeavours aimed at making them entrepreneurs.

Systems will also be put in place to improve the literacy skills of residents, thus allowing them to become competent readers and be capable of obtaining documents, including ID cards, for which they have to sign. They would also be able to access employment.
Meanwhile, Minister of State, Dawn Hastings Williams, told the gathering about the importance of house-to-house registration in order to have credible elections.
Minister Hastings Williams made the point that the acquisition of ID Cards in order to vote was critical especially for young people. Government’s achievements since entering office were also pointed out.

“Our APNU/AFC Government has done a lot. We now have a modern airport, good and smooth roads, the 5bs’ programme, since we came to power.”
Minister of Business, Hon. Hemraj Rajkumar, made the point that Government has been assisting and will continue to assist persons with grants and loans to become owners of their own businesses.

Several other areas were discussed in great detail at Thursday’s meeting, including Land and landownership by several residents in the community, road rehabilitation for residents in the community, lights for areas that had not been lit in years and the acquisition of potable water for residents.

Commitment was also made at Thursday’s meeting, for the availability of land for the purpose of the development of the Bee Keeping Industry.
