RESIDENTS of Kaburi Village, 72 Miles, Bartica-Potaro Road, will soon benefit from the construction of a brand new 1000-foot wooden pedestrian bridge, to be built across one of their main waterways and its swampy surroundings.
The contract, valued approximately $27M, has been awarded by the National Tender Administration Board to International Imports and Supplies, and was signed in the office of the Regional Executive Officer (REO) of the Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region.

Present were the contractor, Parmeshwar Jagmohan; REO Kerwin Ward; Regional Chairman, Gordon Bradford, and other regional officials.
The works to be carried out on the bridge includes site preparation, dismantling of the old structure and construction of the new bridge, with an estimated three-month period to completion.
“The new bridge will benefit residents of the village, especially school children who, otherwise, would walk three miles by way of an alternative route to get to school,” the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) stated.
The RDC has said that while the contractor’s mobilisation for the project has already started, construction is expected to start in two weeks’ time.
Kaburi Village is an Amerindian settlement of approximately 550 residents.
