“I’M very sorry” were the words of a 59-year-old man when he was found guilty by a 12-member jury on Wednesday, June 26,2019, for raping a 25-year-old woman in 2017.

Mahadeo Dasrat called ‘Bahhagee’ was on trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds at the Demerara High Court for engaging in sexual penetration with a 25-year-old woman on April 11, 2017 in the county of Essequibo.

Dasrat was represented by attorney, Rabindra Mohabir, while the State’s case was presented by Prosecutor Seeta Bishundial.

The matter is adjourned until Thursday, June 27, 2019, for the victims’ impact statements before Justice Reynolds hands down sentencing.
