WEST Coast Warriors will seek their third consecutive win when they battle Bronx team, Little Giants, today at Flushing Meadows in Queens, New York, in the Commonwealth 30-over Cricket League.
With their back-to-back wins, Warriors, made up of local and US-based Guyanese players, currently sit in second place with four points, just behind Columbia West, who have six points after three wins in four games.
Little Giants sit in the 11th spot after having won their lone game.
Twenty-four teams are competing in the round-robin event.
Last Sunday, Warriors defeated Dashmesh Cricket Club at Flushing Meadows.
The eventual winners were asked to bowl first after they lost the toss.
Three bowlers captured two wickets each, including Zeeburg Sports Club’s Yutesh Avi Dhanpaul, who spun his way to 2-24 from his six overs. Chanderpaul Persaud supported with 2-44 from his six overs, while Anil Sookdeo undermined the tail with 2-11 towards the end.
Mooney Singh with 44 and D. Singh with 23 had led the Brooklyn-based cricket club with the bat.
In their turn at the middle, Warriors, not without some difficulty, reached 144-8 in 26.4 overs.
Former Leonora resident, Rajendra Khan, stroked a half-century to lead the charge.
The US-based Guyanese struck two sixes and five fours in a top score of 57. He received support from Balbinder Shivpersaud, who scored 22, C. Jaisingh 14 and Medha Dhanpaul who finished unbeaten with 12 runs to ensure a Warriors’ win.
Sanjay Pallet, along with Palm Court Restaurant and Golden Arrow, is sponsoring the Warriors team.
