BANKS DIH, through its Rainforest Waters brand will sponsor the 9th annual 11-race Cycling meet tomorrow at the inner circuit of the National Park.
Guyana’s top cyclists will assemble from 09:30hrs tomorrow for the event which is organised by National cycling coach Hassan Mohamed. They will compete for top honours and sprint prizes along with trophies.
Last year’s winner was Curtis ‘Chappy’ Dey who took the feature 35-lap Schoolboys and Invitational race in one hour 14 minutes 56.09 seconds. Jamual John was second. Andrew Hicks, Christopher Griffith, Briton John and Silvio Innis placed third to sixth in that order.
However, Dey has not climbed atop the podium in recent times and will be hoping that he can find form in time to retain his title. He will face tough challenges from Romello Crawford, Michael Anthony, Paul De Nobrega and Briton John.
In the Boys and Girls 12, Steve Bhimsen was last year’s winner while David Hicks and Jonathan Ramsuchit were second and third respectively.
Last year’s winner in the Veterans U-45 was Junior Niles, who will be looking to retain his title, Steve Ramsuchit and Clement Doris placed second and third last year.
In the Over-50 category, Shameer Baksh was first with Linden Blackman and Kevin Jeffrey second and third.
Briton John was the winner of the Juveniles race with Adealie Hodge and Hameswar Dhanai settling for second and third spots.
