FREEMAN Fordyce, a 41-year-old businessman, was, on Monday, remanded to prison on charges of alleged human trafficking.
Fordyce appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court one month after he was summoned for allegedly trafficking two Venezuelan women for sexual exploitation.
Particulars of the charge alleged that Fordyce, of 99 Collingswood Avenue, Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara, between September 30, 2018 and November 30, 2018, trafficked two Venezuelan women at Club Diamond.
The matter was first called on March 8, 2019, in the courtroom of the Chief Magistrate; however, he was not present to answer to the charges, hence, a summons was issued for him. A few months ago, a video was circulated which showed one of the women jumping over a gate while being supported by her friends to gain access to the night club.
Thereafter, ranks from the police force acted on information and went to the Club where they found a significant number of women who were all arrested and taken into custody.
Fordyce was previously charged for assaulting a police officer who was attempting to arrest him. He was also given a two-year suspended sentence after he was found guilty of having an illegal pistol and ammunition in his possession. Under these circumstances and the fact that he is considered to be a flight risk, he was remanded by the Magistrate until his next court appearance on May 8, 2019.
