WRITING songs, singing and recording are dominant hobbies amongst the youths in Guyana, but there are those who are least concerned with the song, and are focused more on the rhythm that complements the song.

This week’s personality is a 20-year-old young man who said he started making beats out of curiosity.

Shamar Grant, who calls himself GrrVant Kinco, said that growing up, he would always listen to music, but somehow never hears the lyrics.

“When I listen to music, all I was hearing was the beat. I legit used to blank out all the vocal sounds… I got introduced to producing and beat making at 16, and I took it a tad serious at 19,” Grant said.

He told ‘The Buzz Magazine’ that he sacrificed two consecutive August vacations from school to develop the craft of beat making.

“YouTube taught me how to make beats. I had to sacrifice my holidays just to get a full understanding of how to fully structure, compose, what to use, and how to make my own sound. And throughout the years of my production, I have tried many sounds… I listen to new genres without any idea of how to make those types of beats and recreate it my own way,” Grant said.

When he started creating and posting his work, he said that the reaction he got from friends and other listeners had him in awe. And it motivated him to continue along the path.

However, the young man noted that though his work is good, and people love it, he is doing it as a hobby, until his sound is known. The ultimate goal is to have his own company.

In the meanwhile, he says he has a regular 9-5, and he empowers other young people and try to help them find their passion.

“I would always encourage persons to keep working on their craft and commit to what they love. To other young persons who would want to get into beat-making, they have to remember that producers are never the main light of the song, so popularity should never be the aim. But be consistent, and eventually your sound will reach the right ear. They have to also make sure that they understand the business side of this “industry” before entering; get a manager and a distributor. And lastly, be hella creative,” Grant admonished.
