THE Region Three administration will be hosting its second Regional Agricultural and Commercial Expo on April 27 at the Hydronie Community Centre Ground on the West Coast Demerara.
The exhibition will he held under the theme, “Sustaining Region Three in a Green Economy”, and is expected to feature several booths showcasing products, crops and livestock produced by farmers in the region.
Commercial businesses of the region will also showcase their services.
Regional Executive Officer (REO) Jennifer Ferreira-Dougall, who made the disclosure during an exclusive interview with the Guyana Chronicle on Tuesday, expressed her excitement at spearheading the region in staging this year’s event, following a successful inaugural display last year.
As was done last year, the Region Three administration will be collaborating with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) in the region, and the National Agricultural Research & Extension Institute(NAREI) has again been invited to participate in the event, as well as government ministries and other stakeholders.
The event will again create a wide market for farmers, especially those who do not get regular markets for their produce, Ferreira-Dougall noted. She recalled that among the success stories from last year’s event was NAREI being able to sell all of its chickens.
The hosting of agricultural fairs by each of the country’s ten administrative regions is a mandate handed down by President David Granger, and, so far, similar events have been held in Regions Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Four (Demerara-Mahaica), Five (Mahaica-Berbice) and 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The entrance fee for adults is $300, while children will be asked to pay $200.
