Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary females make winning start in Region Three Zone

DEBUTANTS in the Forbes Burnham Foundation, National Sports Commission (NSC), Al Sport and Tour Promotions 28th annual Easter Term School Windball Cricket Championship, Vreed-en-Hoop, got off to a winning start in their first game over the weekend.

The competition, which includes schools from several different regions in the country, including a combined team from Region One, continued with the Region Three Zone at the National Gymnasium with Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary making light work of L’Aventure Secondary.

L’Aventure batted first and made 71-1 in their allotted five overs with N. Innis and Georgina Buttlers scoring 31 and 28 respectively.

Vreed-en-Hoop replied with 74-0 with F. Wilson leading the attack with 34.

In another fixture, Goed Fortuin dominated their clash when they defeated La Grange by 57 runs.  Goed Fortuin batted first and raced to 77-1 with Ashley Yard hitting 39 and C. Liverpool adding 28.  La Grange did not get on top of the bowling and struggled to reach 20-1 before the overs expired.

La Grange later bounced back to beat Patentia Secondary. Patentia batted first and scored 35, while La Grange replied with 36.

 HIGHEST OPENING PARTNERSHIP

Zeeburg Secondary made the highest opening partnership so far in the tournament. The unbeaten 142 propelled them ahead of Leonora Secondary. Varuni Pitamber led the winners with 10 sixes in a score of 79.

Leonora replied with 84-0 with Hannah Edwards and Devi Persaud hitting 32 each.

In the male competition, Goed Fortuin defeated Vreed-en-Hoop by 49 runs. Goed Fortuin batted first and scored 104 with Satesh Persaud hitting 58, while Vreed-en-Hoop were restricted to 55-4 with R. John hitting 25.

L’Aventure got past La Grange by six runs.  La Grange batted first and scored 35-2, while L’Aventure replied with 41-0 (Vishal John 26).

In another fixture, Zeeburg Secondary defeated Leonara by four runs.  Zeeburg batted first and scored 101-3 (W. Khadir and A. Seepersaud 25 each), while Leonora replied with 97-2 (Mark Mohabir 44, T. Lovell 37).

Meanwhile, the Region One team proved competitive in several of their games as they battled some of the top schools in the city.

The championship continues this week at the same venue.
