AFTER suffering a humiliating 10-wicket defeat on Saturday against Everest, the University of Guyana (UG) bounced back nicely to beat Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) by seven wickets in the penultimate round of the New Building Society (NBS) Second Division 40-overs tournament on Sunday.
Batting first after winning the toss, MSC made 219 for nine in their allotted overs with opener Stephon Browne top scoring with 37 while Nichosie Barker and Joseph Cupidore both contributed 30 to the total.
Bowling for UG, off-spinner Dennis Heywood claimed 2-32, Yekin Favorite (2-53) and Devon Paul (2-45).
The run chase was then spearheaded by former national youth batsman, Omesh Danram, who made an unbeaten 89 with eight fours and four sixes. His effort saw the students reaching 221 for three inside the 26 overs.
The right-handed Danram shared in a 155 run-stand with Linden Austin who made 57, inclusive of five fours and a six. The pair came together with the score on 55-2. Godfrey Thakurdin contributed 33 to the winning total.
Skipper Nichosie Barker (1-41), Marcus Watkins (1-40) and Delon Dalrymple (1-31) were the wicket-takers for MSC.
