MINISTER of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton, has received the Ambassador of Peace Award from the local chapter of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF).
Chairman of the federation’s local chapter, Roshan Khan, said the minister received the award for his service to the people.
“He has served the people in and out of the office and we believe that he will continue to do so…in light of this, we have presented the minister with this award which is not to be taken lightly,” said Khan during a simple presentation ceremony on Wednesday.
Khan encouraged Minister Norton to uphold the award by continuing to be an Ambassador of Peace as he serves the people of Guyana. He added that the federation will also be
honouring President David Granger with the award at a later date.
Minister Norton, in return, expressed his gratitude for receiving such an award and made a commitment to maintaining his role as an Ambassador of Peace.
The UPF and its global network of Ambassadors of Peace affirm and apply universal, spiritual principles to the task of resolving conflict and reconciling the divided human family.
The federation is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in General Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (UN).
