(CMC) – Ex-West Indies speedster Mervyn Dillon has been named head coach of Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, replacing Kelvin Williams who quit in the wake of the team’s third defeat of the Regional Four-Day Championship last week.

In a shakeup of the management staff, Roland Sampath was also replaced by David Furlonge, as the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) moved to rescue Red Force’s ailing campaign.

President Azim Bassarath said heavy responsibility now rested on Dillon’s shoulders, especially considering the state of Red Force’s campaign.
“We have high expectations for Mr Dillon as he brings a wealth of experience to the job,” said Bassarath.

“He realises the great responsibility that has been placed on him and we are confident that he will effect the turnaround in the fortunes of the Red Force.”
The 44-year-old Dillon, who grabbed 131 wickets in 38 Tests between 1997 and 2004, holds a Level III Cricket West Indies certification.

He takes over with Red Force fifth in the six-team standings on 36 points, after winning a single match.
