Brenton Charles called 'Banko'

A 31-year-old Kumaka, Mabaruma businessman was on Friday taken before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, after being charged for attempting to commit murder.
Brenton Charles called ‘Banko’ of Kumaka, Waterfront, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Particulars of the charge alleged that, on January 22, 2019, at Kumaka Market, Charles unlawfully wounded Kenrick Henry with intent to commit murder.

Charles’ attorney, Trenton Lake, made an application for bail on the grounds that his client acted in self defence, since the defendant was being attacked by Henry.
Police Prosecutor, Adduni Inniss, opposed to Charles being granted his pre-trial liberty on the grounds that the victim was still hospitalised and his injuries were listed as life-threatening.

Inniss informed the court that the victim was stabbed five times about his body by Charles.
The acting chief magistrate, however, overruled the prosecutor’s objection and released Charles on $400,000 bail. The matter was adjourned until January 31, 2019. According to reports, Henry was at Charles’ bar, when an argument ensued between them.

It is alleged that, Charles armed himself with a knife and stabbed Henry several times about his body. The injured man was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the hospital.
