President of local Mothers Union succumbs 15 days after accident

PRESIDENT of the Mothers Union of the Anglican Church in Guyana Mrs. Joan James better known as ‘Teacher Patsy’, who was involved in an accident between two motor vehicles on the West Berbice Highway on January 2nd last, succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Thursday afternoon.

Mrs. James of Hopetown Village West Coast Berbice was a passenger in the front seat of a mini bus owned by the Mothers Union, when the vehicle became involved in a collision with an approaching motorcar while proceeding west along the southern carriage way of the highway at Golden Grove Village WCB around 09:00hrs that day.

Mrs. James, the driver of the mini bus and a male relative, who was also passenger, received serious injuries and they were all rushed to the Hospital at Fort Wellington then subsequently the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

Mrs. James succumbed fifteen days after her admission. The driver of the mini bus is still hospitalised for injuries to his neck. Mrs. Joan James was a highly respected member of the Anglican Church and was on her way to Georgetown to transact Church business, a friend and member of the Mothers Union in WCB said. Members said that they were devastated by the news of her passing.
