THE Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) has awarded two groups from Bartica and Linden for their proposals submitted based on a Mining Week request for Community Development Project Proposals.

The development projects are aimed at communities that are dependent on mining activities. The projects will be expected to benefit the community directly and specifically target women and children.

The awarded community projects were selected from proposals submitted by any recognised body or group within the selected communities. Proposals were submitted to the commission for consideration for approval and those proposals received the nod. Those awarded are the Bartica Community Policing Group and the West Watooka Farming Development Community Group.

Each group received a cheque for $2million.
On Saturday, the commissioner and team departed the Brickdam Headquarters for Ann’s Grove on the East Coast to hand over the final award to that community for the project that received the nod for Mining Week 2018 activities.
