WITH two days remaining in the Third Edition of the East Bank Football Association/Ralph Green-sponsored Under-11 League, there is still not yet a clear winner of this 12-team tournament.
Following the 8th day of play Tuesday at the Diamond Community Centre ground, Grove Hi Tech ended their 11-game campaign with their ninth win and an unbeaten record after recording 2-0 win over Samatta Point/Kaneville.
Netting for the winners who ended their campaign on 29 points were their leading scorers, Jevon Pluck (10 goals) in the 20th minute and Jamal Cordis (14 goals) in the 24th minute; Samatta Point/Kaneville putting up a sterling performance but lost.The day saw four walkovers awarded. The other matches produced wins for Swan Football Club who defeated Samatta Point/Kaneville 6-0; but in their second match of the day, Swan suffered their first defeat of the league when they went down to Timehri Panthers, 2-3.
Swan’s leading scorer, Anderson Webber (16 goals) netted a hat-trick to lead his team to victory with strikes in the 10th, 14th and 25th minutes. Ezekiel Reid touched in double (6th and 8th) while their sixth goal was an own goal compliments of Dominique Layne on the stroke of full time.
In the penultimate match of the day, Swan took the lead through Anderson Webber who found the back of the net when he beat goalkeeper Shamar Williams in the 10th minute but two minutes later, Timehri struck back when their captain and the league’s leading scorer Omar Sam scored the first of his double.
Jaden Tasher then handed Timehri the lead in the 22nd minute only for Ezekiel Reid to strike back two minutes later for Swan to tie the match, 2-2. Sam did the honours of securing his team’s eighth win in 9 outings when he banged in his 21st goal of the league in the 29th minute.
Walkovers were awarded to Diamond Upsetters, Friendship All Stars, Diamond United and Agricola Red Triangle as a result of the no-show of Herstelling Raiders, Kuru Kururu Warriors and Mocha Champs.
The penultimate day of action is set for today at the same venue when four matches would be contested.
Diamond Upsetters will come up against Timehri Panthers from 09:00hrs to be followed by Herstelling Raiders against Samatta Point/Kaneville at 09:45hrs. Agricola Red Triangle will face Friendship All Stars from 10:30hrs with the final match between Mocha Champs and Kuru Kururu Warriors.
Saturday would be the final day of play with three matches scheduled; Diamond United will take on Samatta Point/Kaneville in the opening game from 09:00hrs, Timehri Panthers will close out against Friendship All Stars from 09:45hrs with the final match of the league between Swan FC and Agricola Red Triangle from 10:30hrs.
The presentation of prizes would follow the final match.
