DEMERARA Bank Limited on Sunday afternoon brightened the lives of 100 orphans drawn from four orphanages by hosting and sponsoring a Christmas party and fun-day at the Indian Monument Gardens located at Church Street and North Road, Georgetown.
According to Demerara Bank Limited Branch Manager, Christina Correia, Christmas is celebrated worldwide as a time of peace and joy and it is also the time that persons appreciate the significance of family and friends.
As such, in Guyana, she said, there are hundreds of children orphaned due to very unfortunate situations and that is how they pitched in and spread sparks of hope and joy by hosting and financing a party for the children.

She related that the children were drawn from the Sophia Care Home; the Shaheed’s Boys and Girls Orphanages located in the city and on the East Coast of Demerara; A Sanctuary Children’s Home, East Coast Demerara; and Bless the Children’s Home, East Coast Demerara.
Correia stated that the children were entertained with music and various games including a trampoline after they had a delicious meal accompanied by snacks and other goodies.
She said that one of the aims of Demerara Bank Limited is to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate and to spread Christmas cheer and, by the look of things on Sunday, it was evident that the children were having a good time as they were engaged in several recreational activities.
The children were also presented gifts by their in-house Santa Claus and Mrs Claus and were attended to by staff members of the local bank.
