A MOTORCYCLIST who was allegedly speeding along the Bagotville, West Bank Demerara Public Road with no headlamps died around 20:30hours on Wednesday after the motorcycle slammed into a car which was heading in the opposite direction.

Dead is 18-year-old Dan Boston of Bagotville. He died on the spot while the pillion rider, who was also injured in the crash, was up to late on Thursday afternoon still receiving medical attention. However, police investigating the accident indicated that the young man is out of danger.

Reports are that the two men moments before the accident were seen conversing with other friends and shortly after they left on the motorcycle. The driver of the car attempted to take evasive measures and also applied his brakes but that still did not help the situation given the rate of speed the motorcycle was coming with.

On impact, the two were flung to the roadway where they were picked up and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Police traffic ranks told the Guyana Chronicle that car was driving at a normal rate of speed at the time of the crash. The car and motorcycle numbers have been recorded as HC 3870 and CJ 2217 respectively.

The police are continuing their investigation into the matter even as the car driver remains in custody.
