ON November 24, ranks from the Guyana Police Force participated in the seventh Regional Ohana Kempo karate open Martial Arts Tournament, which was held at the Lester Vaughan Secondary School in St James, Barbados.
The tournament showcased a number of breathtaking displays of karate and Martial Arts techniques performed by competitors from the two participating countries (Guyana and Barbados).
Sensei Troy Bobb led the six-member team which included Woman Constable 24420 Nyesha Carrington, Woman Constable 24488 Canesha Phillips, Constable 24252 Ijaz Cave, Constable 24521 Trevlon Clarke and Sensei Paul Ignatius.
The fighters contested in various exciting choreographed patterns of movements with age categories ranging 19-25, 20-30 and 35-50 years respectively.
Constable Clarke, who competed in the point sparring, grappling and kick-boxing, was successful in his events and achieved one gold and two silver medals.
Constable Cave earned three medals (two gold and one bronze) for winning his kick-boxing, wrestling, grappling and point sparring.
Woman Constable Phillips, who won the kid noddle sparring, stick wrestling and self-defence, received three medals (two gold, one silver).
Similarly Woman Constable Carrington bagged three medals (two gold and one silver) for winning the kid noddle sparring, stick wrestling and self-defence respectively.
Meanwhile Sensei Troy Bobb got first place in his kata and weapon sparring and second place in his self-defence sparring, for which he received two gold medals and one silver. Sensei Paul Ignatius collected two silver medals for empty arm and weapons sparring and one gold medal for self-defence.
The goal of the tournament which lasted for five hours was simply to give Martial Arts practitioners the opportunity to participate in an event in a relaxing and enjoyable environment.
Sensei Bobb and his team returned to Guyana on November 27, 2018 and they are expected to participate in the highly-anticipated Night of Fights, scheduled for tonight at the Tactical Services Unit Drill Square.
