GFC, Northern Rangers clash tonight for Turbo KO Trophy

IN a winner-take-all battle this evening, Northern Rangers will play Georgetown Football Club (GFC) in the final of the Second Annual Turbo KO football tournament.

Set for the Ministry of Education ground on Carifesta Avenue, the tournament culminates with the best two teams meeting in the final according to Petra co-director Troy Mendonca.
“The final has an ever-improving GFC coming up against Northern Rangers who have a mixture of experienced players and youngsters,” Mendonca said.

He believes that the entire tournament was a high-quality one with several close encounters, adding that the fan support come tonight will be integral for both teams.
The co-director added, “I just want to encourage fans to come out and witness these two great teams play quality football and lift that Turbo trophy.”

PRESSURE ON GFC IS IMMINENT
Meanwhile GFC, through player/coach Dellon Cadogan, has admitted that the side will be under pressure to ensure they secure a senior tournament trophy after going to several finals.

“Yes, we do feel pressured because we need to get it done. We need to win a senior tournament. We’ve been right up there with the best for the longest while,” he said.
He contended that, (we) are not underestimating Northern Rangers but we are quite confident that we can get the job done.”

“You can expect a lot from GFC tomorrow (today); come and see the youths play football at the highest level. We predict to be two goals clear,” he added.

LOOKING TO BREAK JINX
Nigel Denny, the representative of the Northern Rangers contended that there will be something to prove from his side.
“It will be a very good game. Kinda be a grudge match for me and my team because every time we come up against GFC, we always give us a lil fight. The last two games we played, they beat us twice.”

He echoed Mendonca’s sentiments about the team makeup, saying, “We (have) got a lot of experience with a lot of youths,” also predicting a 3-1 score line at the final whistle.
Tonight’s final is set for 21:00hrs with the third-place playoff between Mahaica Determinators and Santos set for 19:00hrs.
