… after admitting to ganja possession
SENIOR Magistrate Faith McGusty on Monday imposed a two-year suspended sentence on a 24-year-old Crabwood Creek labourer for trafficking over 30 grams of cannabis.
Devanand Singh admitted that on November 30, 2018 at his Lot 1806 Grant, Crabwood Creek, Corentyne Berbice home, he had 38 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Gordon Mansfield told the court that acting on information received, ranks went to Singh’s home and conducted a search during which the cannabis was found in his pants pocket.
Singh explained that he did not want to waste the court’s time and admitted ownership of the drugs.
Magistrate McGusty after considering Singh’s early guilty plea, ordered him to pay a $57,000 fine along with two years suspended sentence.
