Pestano’s aggressive half-century leads RHT Gizmos and Gadgets ‘A’ to title

A BRUTAL batting display by national batsman Clinton Pestano helped the Rose Hall Town (RHT) Gizmos and Gadgets ‘A’ to a 51-run victory in the final of the Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB) Brian Ramphal First-Division Double-Wicket tournament, which concluded on Sunday night under lights at the Albion Community Centre ground.

The tournament was a milestone for the proactive BCB, since its president Hilbert Foster had promised to organise 22 tournaments for 2018 when he took office this year.
“Promises fullfilled”, Mission accomplished”, Foster stated at the presentation ceremony. The board is expected to surpass its astronomical numbers, since five other tournaments are currently in progress and another four will commence before the end of the year.

DESTRUCTIVE PESTANO
Pestano, who is set to represent Guyana from tomorrow in St Lucia against the Windward Volcanoes in the first game of the 2018-2019 Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Four-Day Championship, smashed 10 fours and two huge sixes in just 16 balls.
He was run-out on 53 while Sinclair was left not out on 11, as their team scored 71 runs from their four overs.

Albion ‘A’, consisting of Jonathan Foo and Kevin Umroa, had no chance when they batted, Foo was bowled by medium pacer Sinclair for five, which left the score on 10-1 in the second over, before a fired-up Pestano scattered the stumps of Kevin Umroa for 8 to restrict the side to 20 in 2.3 overs.

Earlier in the evening, Pestano had struck 45 to lift his pair to 47 all out from 3.2 overs after Kevin Sinclair was dismissed by the pacey Nial Smith without score in the first over.
In response, Tucber Park could reach only 28 in their four overs with Barker contributing 20.

FIRST OF ITS KIND
The Brian Ramphal-sponsored tournament was the first of its kind to be organised in the 79-year history of the BCB. The double- wicket tournament was one of several programmes/events, organised by the BCB with the $1M donated by Brian Ramphal.
Pestano and Sinclair received $75 000 and a trophy while the 2nd and 3rd place prizes were $40 000 and $20 000 respectively.

The pairs were supported by six of their club members in the field, while each pair had to bat four overs.
