…permitting vending on Water, Regent and Robb streets
THE Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown said it is in the process of finalising security arrangements for the festive season.
The City Constabulary Department will be working in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force to ensure the safety of shoppers and commuters in the city, a release from the M&CC said. This, the council said, is necessary to manage the anticipated increase in shopping and other activities for the holidays, in the city of Georgetown.
The arrangement includes the increased number of patrols in and around the municipal markets, and public buildings and facilities. Special arrangements will be in place to secure the outflow of pumps and other drainage facilities.
Also, the council has given the green light for seasonal vending to commence on Regent, Water and Robb Streets. This, the council said, will give vendors the opportunity to do business. Simultaneously, it would help council to monitor and regulate the operations of vendors.
As a result, the council is seeking the cooperation of all citizens in this effort to bring order and safety in downtown Georgetown and other sections of the city. All vendors are required to have appropriate refuse receptacles for the storage of waste.
