A FATHER of five appeared in court on Wednesday, charged for the murder of a teen at Yarrowkabra last week.
Anthony Jones, 40, of Circuit Ville, Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plead to the capital charge. Particulars of the charge allege that on October 13, 2018, at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, Jones murdered Nyron Vyphuis.
he man was represented by attorney James Bond. Police Prosecutor Simone Payne told the court that the post-mortem was still outstanding, as well as other police statements. The magistrate remanded Jones to prison. The matter was adjourned until November 6, 2018.
According to reports, about 19:30hrs on October 13, the teen was at a liquor shop owned by Anthony Jones, in the area.
At the time, the owner of the shop was imbibing with friends when suddenly he started to abuse his spouse. The young man, upon realising what was happening, intervened and attempted to stop the man from harming the woman. At this time, Jones got annoyed and left, but he returned with an axe. The weapon was eventually taken from him by other persons who were at the shop.
However, the furious man went into his home and again armed himself, this time with a knife which he allegedly used to attack and stab the teenager. The teen, in an effort to escape, ran a short distance, but collapsed to the ground as blood gushed profusely from the wound. Friends of the teenager alerted his family members, who rushed to the scene where they found his lifeless body lying in a clump of bushes. The police were contacted and the suspect was taken into custody while the teen’s body was removed from the scene. The mother of the 19-year-old teen is seeking justice for her son.
