– with eco-friendly approach to doing business
IN a bid to reduce their carbon footprint, Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society on Thursday launched its new Online website with a number of new and efficient electronic options to assist current and potential policyholders when doing business.
The event was held at the Marriott Hotel, where Marketing Manager, Clarence Perry explained that his company has embarked on a path to go ‘green’ by applying eco-friendly business principles to the way they do business on a daily basis.
“Demerara Mutual, with the launch of this revamped website, client portal and document management system, has taken a significant leap in reducing its use of paper as an organisation,” Perry said.
“Our contribution is to reduce the demand for paper, thus leading to the reduction of the cutting of trees for paper production, which obviously helps retaining forest cover for the sustenance of life on the planet,” he added.
Doing so, he said, will significantly reduce Demerara Mutual’s environmental footprint, as document management systems are an automated way of managing files that would allow them to create, track, index, review, store, manage and share documents digitally while reducing the dependence on paper.

This new feature of theirs, he said, will also enhance transaction time and the security of documents within the company, as the new interactive website, www.demeraramutual.com, allows policyholders to download forms either to make claims or request policy loans, or for a change of beneficiary.
“Persons can request quotes, have their queries done Online as an alternative function when interfacing with the company, other than calling or visiting our offices,” Perry said, adding that policyholders can also make payment requests for withdrawals, coverage, address changes or make queries Online.
“Together,” he said, “these initiatives facilitate easy and faster transactions with the company through the provision of self- service options for policyholders.

“They also facilitate easier access for persons who wish to do business with the company for the first time, providing them with timely access to information and essential financial services that cater for the needs of individuals, families and corporate clients.”
Minister of Public Telecommunications, Cathy Hughes commended Demerara Mutual for embracing and preparing for these changes in technology.
“You are now again blazing the trial as the oldest member of Guyana’s insurance industry, guaranteeing that your policyholders have easier and faster access to information in this digital world,” the Minster said.
“My wish is that this paperless initiative serves as a tradewind trailblazer for the rest of the industry, and for all of us in Guyana,” she added.
