-wins Guyana’s second medal
GUYANA Defence Force (GDF) Lance Corporal Colin `Superman’ Lewis single-handedly blocked a Venezuelan invasion when he defeated Christian Madena in a light welterweight boxing fight Sunday night at the South American Games in Bolivia.
The lanky Lewis recovered from Shaky first round to dominate the second and third stanza of the quarter-final bout, leading to a points victory over the Venezuelan Madena. The win assured Lewis of at least a bronze medal at the Games.
Team Manager/Coach Terrence Poole disclosed that Lewis proved to be a true warrior and should improve in his next fight. On Saturday bantamweight Keevin Allicock won Guyana’s first medal at the game when he defeated Lucas Garcia of Uruguay 3-2 in another quarter-final fight.
Both Lewis and Allicock, the only two boxing representatives from Guyana at the Games, are scheduled to participate in semi-final action tonight.
