ELLIOT Vieira opened his Canadian Superbike Championship (CSBK) account with a modest sixth place finish in Shannonville, Ontario over the weekend.

The Guyanese, who had a stop and start series last year started this year aboard a Yamaha R6 sponsored by Aventura Gold, Fly Jamaica, Snow City Cycle, Brooklin Cycle Racing, Roadsport Auto Group, Riedmann Racing and Dunlop.

The Guyanese qualified in seventh on Saturday but had a section of his times removed by race control as the penalty for refuelling in the pit lane.
He put down a fastest valid time of 1:08.294 in lap four of the session across the 2.45km facility with the pole sitter Tomas Casas posting a best time of 106.323.

Speaking to Chronicle Sport, he said, “All in all it was a decent ride. I feel that there are some areas that we can correct moving forward but I had gun out there.”

“I want to thank my sponsors of course, without them, I couldn’t have even been out there so kudos to them. I also want to thank my parents whose support has been phenomenal, my dad especially who is out here all weekend as part of my crew.”

“Speaking of my crew, I can’t forget to mention them, the excellent work they have been doing with the bike to get it to where it is.”

“I see this as a plus because even though I finished off the podium, I was able to get up one place from qualifying. It’s all about remaining positive and moving forward to round two in a couple weeks’ time.”
