After almost three months of hiding from the police, a 25-year-old construction worker was on Wednesday remanded to prison for the murder of America Street “money-changer” Shawn Nurse, known as ‘Fabulous’, who was gunned down in Georgetown back in February this year.
Kacey Heyliger of Shell Road, Kitty appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates Court and was charged with allegedly killing 47-year-old Nurse during the course of a robbery on February 4 at America Street.
Heyliger was not required to plea to the charge and was remanded to prison until May 21.
Currently on remand before Principle Magistrate Judy Latchman for the offence are Kerwin DaSantos called ‘Buffy’ and George Hope called ‘Gregory,’ both 24-years-olds.
On Sunday, February 4, Nurse was shot in the head after he refused to comply with the suspect’s demand that he turn over whatever cash he had on him to do business with that day. Reports are that after Nurse was shot to his face, the robber made good his escape.
The police were able to make the arrests after reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding buildings. Just last year, Nurse was robbed but was later able to identify two of the persons who had allegedly committed the offence.
Heyliger, was also charged with the $2M armed robbery committed on Tharaj Boodoo on April 30 at Industry, East Coast Demerara.
He was not required to plea to the charge since Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield explained that another person was charged with the same offence on Wednesday at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.
