A RESIDENT of Silver Town, Wismar, Linden is now fighting for her life at the Linden Hospital Complex after she was on Thursday morning doused with hot water, allegedly by her reputed husband, Leslie Woolford.
Thirty-eight-year-old Onika Kingston, a mother of three, is nursing first and second degree burns on 25% of her upper body including her arms, back and chest. Information reaching this newspaper revealed that her reputed husband, who is a cook, emptied a pot of boiling rice on her after an argument ensued between them. It was unclear what started the argument. The incident occurred sometime around 11:30 hrs.
The man then walked into the Wismar Police Station while Kingston was rushed to the LHC. Sources indicate that upon making the report, Woolford started to pant for breath and had to be seated after claiming that his blood sugar was low. He did not cooperate much with the police but was heard saying, “yal don’t know what I does go through.” Investigations are ongoing.
This case of domestic violence occurred a day after a woman was strangled by her reputed husband at Wales, West Bank Demerara. Social media became abuzz with the upsurge in domestic violence cases against women and are calling for the relevant authorities to look into the matter. Calls are also made to women to end abusive relationships since they most times end with them being maimed or dead. Only Saturday, women in Linden held a ‘Speak Up Speak Out’ march against abuse on women and children.
