SIX miners have been arrested after police found two firearms and several grams of cannabis in the backlands of the Potaro River, during a search of a mining camp there on Sunday.

Reports indicate that police on patrol in the backlands stopped at the mining camp where they met six persons. A search was conducted and the firearms and the cannabis were found.

When contacted, the police confirmed the arrests and noted that one of the suspects confessed to ownership of one of the weapons.

The men were taken to the Mahdia Police Station where they remain in custody.
