FOLLOWING contrasting victories on Wednesday, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and Transport Sports Club (TSC) will face off in the highly anticipated final of the Toucan Distributors/ Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) U-15 competition.
In their semi-final encounter against Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) at home, DCC won the toss and sent them in to bat.
Off the allotted 50 overs, the visitors managed 179 for seven as their captain Rivaldo Phillips led the way with the bat compiling a mature knock of 56 which included four fours and a six.
Phillips also had his side’s highest partnership of 74 for the third wicket with Ariyan Persaud who made a tidy 37 with three fours.
They were backed up by all-rounder Thaddeus Lovell who scored a quick-fire 33 with four fours to end unbeaten.
The cream of the bowlers comprised seamer Mark Sharma who had 3-16 from seven overs and off-spinners Romeo Deonarain and Inderjit Nanan who had respective figures of 2-21 and 2-28.
DCC, chasing the target, had GCC on the back foot with a 93-run partnership between Nanan and Jaden Campbell, which laid the platform for success.
Nanan made 44 in which he stroked four fours while Campbell made 33 with three fours. Gustavo Hutson held the back end of the innings together after GCC’s Joash Charles had them wobbling with his figures of 3-38. Hutson stroked an unbeaten 27 to see DCC home at 180-8 with just two overs remaining.
Meanwhile, over at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) ground, TSC inflicted a heavy 94-run defeat on Bel Air RUBiS. After winning the toss and electing to bat, TSC were dismissed for 198 in 44 overs. Chad Shivrattan was TSC’s top scorer with 56, decorated with five fours and a six. He was backed up by Jonathan Adams who hit three fours in his knock of 31.
Mahendra Singh took 4-20 for Bel Air RUBiS; his side was then skittled out for 104 in just 28.5 overs.
Leading the way with the ball for the victorious TSC side was Alvin Mohabir with 4-20 while Mervyn Permaul (2-13) and Joshua Blackman (2-20) were his able deputies.
The final of the Toucan Distributors/GCA U-15 competition will be played at DCC ground in Queenstown. (Michelangelo Jacobus)
