FORMER chairman of the Interim Management Committee of Linden, Orrin Gordon, has been appointed Regional Executive Officer of Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Upper Berbice), effective Monday 13th March 2018.
In a statement, the Ministry of Communities quoted Gordon as saying that he will be taking up the post with an open mind.
He noted that his first order of business is to work hard to have government-allocated funding spent with greater effectiveness on projects within the Region 10 communities. This, he posited, will benefit the region, thereby providing a good life for the citizens of the region. Gordon had applied to the Ministry of Communities for the position in 2018.
Mr Gordon’s career spans decades with stints at Linmine as project analyst during the period 1981, at the Surapana Agricultural Allied Services Ltd. (SAASL), as a senior project analyst, 1984 ; SAASL production manager,1986; managing-director, 1991-2006; private enterprise, small entrepreneur (livestock production); current senior project analyst, 1984, Guyana Association of Municipalities (GAM) (Treasurer- 2005-2016)
Gordon was also a member of several associations and committees. GAM representative on NAC (CARILED).(2012-2016); Convenor of Agriculture Committee-RDC #10- (1992-1997; member of Board of Directors (LEN), 2015-2017; member, National Water Management Committee (2008 member, National Animal Research and Production Committee (1984-1988); Caribbean Agro-Economic Association ; member, Guyana Poultry Producers Association; treasurer (1999-2003), Linden Chamber of Industry, Commerce and Development (LCICD); (senior vice-president (2003).
Mr Gordon has also been involved in publications of the National Agricultural Journal, “Efficacy of corn and sorghum vs rice in broiler chicken diet”-“Results of mineral supplementation in swine feeding” and other mini-publications: Mini-handbook for small poultry producers, mini-handbook for small business management.
