SACHIA Vickery’s sensational form in tennis didn’t go unnoticed, with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) latest world Rankings seeing the 22-year-old earning her highest career ranking of 99.

Vickery, born to Guyanese parents, Paula Liverpool and Rawle Vickery, from Region 10, had recently signalled her intention to represent Guyana on the international stage, and more so at the 2020 Olympic Games.

On a short visit to Guyana in January, the diminutive but powerful player had told Chronicle Sport that breaking into the Top 100 in the world is atop her priority this year.

Vickery is one of only 11 Americans in the top 100 which is headed by Romanian Simona Halep and had ranking of 102 prior to yesterday’s leap.

Vickery is presently in California where she’s preparing for the 2018 BNP Paribas Open (also known as the 2018 Indian Wells Masters) with the hope of cashing in on the tournament’s US $8,648,508 prize.
