CIRCUIT-racing fans have begun counting the days to the early anticipated Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMR&SC) National Race of Champions Round One for 2018.
The first major circuit race of the year is expected to feature several of the country’s top riders and drivers when the action gets going on March 25.
According to GMR&SC president Rameez Mohamed, the event has been in the planning stages since the start of this month and following the conclusion of the AGM, the body is heightening its race-preparations.
“This is the first of our marquee events for the year and we want to start it off with a bang. There are a number of things we want to do to bring back spectator-support for these early rounds and we will discuss them as a committee,” Mohamed said.
He added, “We also want to hear from the competitors as to what we can do better for them on the days leading up and also on race day. If it means reshuffling the race orders or bringing in a few new initiatives we are always open to hearing what they (competitors) think.”
The event is expected to undergo minimal change if any, with the standard groups getting three races.
The street and sport tuner classes as well as the Starlet cup along with the groups two, three and four as well as bikes will be in action.
The event’s main sponsors are Ansa McAl, Mohamed’s Enterprise and Tropical Shipping.
