DOCTORS at the Suddie Hospital on the Essequibo Coast were up to press time fighting to save the life of a 23–year-old woman who was stabbed several times by her ex-boyfriend, on Monday afternoon.
Reports are that at around 16:45 hrs, Shanella Marques was on her way home with relatives to the Upper Pomeroon area when she was confronted by the man, who has since been identified as Leonard Grant.
Marques who sustained two stab wounds; one to the shoulder and another close to her neck, was rushed to the Suddie Hospital were the doctors were attempting to remove a broken part of the knife which was left her body during the attack.
Relatives of the young woman related that because of constant abuse at the hands of the suspect the woman had on several occasions moved to her relatives’ home. Recently, she moved in with her mother and this apparently angered the suspect.
Meanwhile, Police at Charity are searching for the suspect.
The incident comes on the heels of a similar one two weekends ago, when another young woman was set alight by her ex-boyfriend. The matter is currently engaging the attention of courts.
