DERICK Carmichael, a port-knocker of Rosignol Village, West Bank Berbice, was on Wednesday sentenced to three years imprisonment after pleading guilty to possession of 29 grams of cannabis at an Itaballi Police checkpoint on Monday.
The sentence was handed down when he appeared before Bartica Magistrate Christel Lambert.
Meanwhile, Henry Conway, 55, of 162 Amelia’s Ward, Linden who was Tuesday evening arrested by ranks of a police patrol at Two Miles, Mabura, with 547 grams of cannabis, made his appearance also before Magistrate Christel Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. The defendant pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until February 13, 2018, when his trial will commence.
