THE Metro Stationery and Computer Supplies continued its sponsorship for the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club’s Annual Boxing Day horse race meet with a contribution of $1M for the first prize winner of the feature event on the day’s seven-race card.

The activity will be held next Tuesday at the club’s facility, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne Berbice, beginning at 13:30hrs.
The feature event for which Metro is sponsoring the first prize is open to horses classified `C and Lower’ over a distance of nine furlongs.
The second- to fourth-place finishers will earn $500 000, $250 000 and $125 000 respectively.
This is the eighth consecutive year that the office supplies company has sponsored the first prize and trophy for the event which started in 1936 by the Kennard family.
Handing over the sponsorship and trophy yesterday was Metro’s assistant manager Ariff Baksh who said the Ramnarayan and Kharag family, who owns and operates the company, is pleased to be associated with the Kennard’s horse race meet and always sponsors the first prize for the feature event.
Justice Kennard in response thanked Metro for continued support to the event and knows fully well that the company will continue its support for many years to come.
The retired judge noted that when he approached the company in 2009 seeking sponsorship, the company did not hesitate, but instead pledged willingness to continue to support the meet annually.
The former Police Service Commission head said sponsorship for any event is vital to keep the sport alive.
Horses registered for the feature event includes Just call Me Boss, Lady Budapest, Honey Flo, Golden Blue Echo, Brave Sky and Goodwill Boy.
