WORLD University Service of Canada Caribbean (WUSC Caribbean) and Food for the Poor (Guyana) Inc (FFP) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for specific areas of cooperation.

The MoU supports the contribution and distribution of seeds, simple tools and equipment to farmers, agro-processing and farming groups and learning institutions.

The agreement also entails promoting the adaption of climate smart agricultural practices through the establishment of shade houses and supporting small-scale farmers to pursue crop diversification and adapt new technologies to boost efficiency and productivity.

It will promote agro-processing and farming groups with the establishment/ upgrading of agro-processing centres.

Signing for WUSC Caribbean was Munish Persaud, Deputy Project Director while Kent Vincent, Chief Executive Officer of FFP signed on behalf of the non-governmental organisation.

Speaking on behalf of WUSC Caribbean, Deputy Project Director Munish Persaud said it was a really good opportunity for both entities using their resources to get more lasting sustainable solutions for the issues facing poor farmers in Guyana.

On the part of FPP, Chief Executive Officer Kent Vincent said it was good to link with another entity that promotes agricultural initiatives.

“The collaborative effort was very opportune and we are happy to sign this MoU,” he said.

Witnessing the signing were Marissa Lowden, Country Coordinator of WUSC Caribbean and Andrea Benjamin, Senior Project Officer of FFP.
