GEORGETOWN Cricket Club (GCC) will play Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in the final of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) sponsored Carib Beer T20 tournament after defeating Police Sports Club by five wickets in yesterday’s semi-final at the GCC Ground, Bourda.
Having restricted Police to a manageable 131-7, the task for the GCC batsmen wasn’t difficult. They eventually reached 132-5 in 17 overs. GCC will now meet DCC in the final at a date to be announced shortly.
Winning the toss and deciding to field first, the hosts made the perfect start, getting rid of danger man Andrew Lyght Jnr. for one, bowled by Ronsford Beaton (2-41), in the innings’ second over, at 10-1.

More celebrations were in store soon after when Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed (1-24), removed fellow opener Alex Algoo (10), within the six overs of Powerplay.
Ricardo Adams also failed to impress, when he was removed for five by Joshua Wade (2-31), at 49-3. However, despite Mark Gonsalves’ (25), inclusive of four boundaries, the GCC bowlers kept the Police batsmen under constant pressure.
Left-arm spinner Anthony Adams (2-8), claimed the wickets of Gonsalves and big-hitting Sherwin McPherson (17), at 74-5.

Both Beaton and Wade returned for their second spells and rallied to dismiss Jason Heyliger (17) and Kelvin Leitch (2) respectively, at 99-7.
However, Lennox Andrews and Stephen Harris then shared an unbroken stand of 32, with Andrews unbeaten on 20 and Harris on 13.
The hosts chase got off to the perfect start, with openers Robin Bacchus and Khemraj Jaikarran putting on 40 for the first wicket at a steady pace.
The left-handed Bacchus was the more aggressive of the two, hitting five fours in his 25, but Heyliger broke the stand with the last ball of the fourth over when he had Bacchus caught and bowled.

Captain Leon Johnson joined Jaikarran, but his stay at the crease was short-lived. After hitting Ricardo Adams for the innings first maximum, Johnson was caught and bowled off Harris for 10, at 54-2.

Martin Pestano-Bell and Jaikarran joined forces, and added 28 runs for the third-wicket before the latter was dismissed by off-spinner Leitch for 22.
But the Pestano-Bell and Ali-Mohamed combination then took the score within reach of the winning target before Pestano-Bell was removed by Raun Johnson for 23.
Wade then went soon after, caught at the wicket off Harris, but Ali-Mohamed, who survived two late drop chances, ensured the win with an unbeaten 30, inclusive of two fours and two sixes.

The other semifinal played on Friday between Demerara Cricket Club and Everest Cricket Club, saw hosts DCC winning by four wickets.
Scores: Everest 160-8; DCC 161-6. Raymond Perez smashed four fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 58 to seal the win for DCC.
