13th Annual Hand-in-Hand Insurance 11-race cycle programme on today in National Park

CYCLE coach Hassan Mohamed will coordinate the 13th Annual Hand-in-Hand 11-race cycle programme in the National Park today, beginning at 09:00hrs.

The feature event is the 35-lap race that is open to schoolboys and invitational cyclists and defending champion Hamza Eastman will be hoping to make it back- to-back victories.
He won last year in a time of one hour 17 minutes 02.16 seconds, but he will have to be wary of in-form cyclists such as Andrew Hicks, Paul DeNobrega,, Orville Hinds, Shaquel Agard, Raul Leal, Alonzo Ambrose and Deoraj Garbarran just to name a few.
The much-anticipated 10-lap race for juveniles is expected to be a scorcher as defending champion of the event, Dwayne Gibbs Jr, will be out to successfully defend his title which he won last year in a time of 24 minutes 24.16 seconds, and, like Eastman, he will be coming up against some stiff opposition.
There will also be five-lap races for veterans under and over 45 years of age and here is where the more experienced and seasoned riders will do battle. The likes of Linden Blackman, Stephen Fernandes, Warren McKay, Kennard Lovell and others will vie for honours.
Last year’s winner for the Under-45 category is Jaikarran Sukhai while the Over-45 winner was Walton Spencer.
There will be the usual BMX races for boys and girls, six to 14 years old, as well as a five-lap race for mountain bikers.
