Massiah leads Floodlights X1 to easy win

LED by responsible batting from Shawn Massiah, Floodlights X1 secured a convincing six-wicket win over Parika Defenders in an arranged T20 match under lights at the Demerara Cricket Club ground last Friday night.

Massiah made an unbeaten 59, and got valuable support from Patrick Khan, with 33, and an unbeaten 25 from Ricky Deonarine, as the hosts chased down the winning target of 150, with ease.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first. They lost opener M. Chatram without scoring and M. Balgobin for three.
However, Jerome Basdeo joined the other opener Dubraj Singh, and added 103 runs for the third wicket which eventually was the backbone of their total of 149-6 off their allotted 20 overs.
Singh made 60 and Basdeo 45. Bowling for Floodlights X1, Beharry snared 3-10. Surendra Nauth and Khalid Baksh took a wicket apiece.
In reply, the hosts lost both openers Yusuf Uniss and Rabindra Singh without scoring, but Massiah and Khan then added a third-wicket partnership of 58 before the latter went for 33.
Rakesh Arjune was then dismissed for two, but thereafter Ricky Deonarine and Massiah took full control of the chase.
The duo put together an unbeaten fifth-wicket partnership of 68 to seal the win with five balls to spare.
Bowling for the visitors, Basdeo completed a fine all-round performance taking 3-34.
