A MINER accused of beating a man with a piece of wood was on Monday charged for felonious wounding and was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.
It is alleged that Alex Bovell on August 24, at St Elizabeth Backdam, Potaro River, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Clive Hope to cause him actual bodily harm.
The unrepresented man pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court that the victim was taking advantage of him.
According to the prosecution facts, on the day in question, there was a misunderstanding between the two men when Bovell armed himself with a piece of wood and lashed Hope about his body. Bovell made good his escape but was later arrested.
Police Prosecutor, Arwin Moore, objected to the accused being granted bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the charge. The Magistrate ruled in the prosecution’s favour and remanded Bovell until September 18.
