Leader of the Opposition, Bharrat Jagdeo, has expressed deep concerns over the recent prison break, calling it a disaster. Five of the escapees have since been recaptured.
“This morning (Monday), 13 of the most dangerous prisoners escaped the pasture in which they were corralled at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara. This latest tragedy has catapulted the nation into even greater fear,” Jagdeo, who was President when several jailbreaks occurred- the mostly deadly being in 2002, said.
According to him the matter is compounded by the fact that “this government is manifestly incapable of saying or doing anything to allay the fear and trauma that have gripped this land.” He questioned whom will the Coalition Government blame this time, the PPP/C again and whether it will still ludicrously contend that they inherited this situation from the PPP/C government?
“We reiterate our continued support for the members of our Disciplined Forces. We urge them to expend their best efforts in seeking to capture all the escapees so that our country can return to some degree of normalcy,” the Opposition Leader said.
