P&P Insurance Brokers’ feature 35-lap cycle race

GUYANA Police Force’s Mario King rode intelligently to out-fox Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Alonzo Ambrose to win the feature event of the 17th Annual sponsored P&P Insurance Brokers Limited 11-race cycling programme held in the National Park yesterday.
King who made his move with approximately 150 metres remaining, returned a winning-time of one hour, 18 minutes, 21.22 seconds to win handsomely from Ambrose.
There were 22 starters who stuck together for most of the 35 laps. Raul Leal who finished fifth overall won the first and fourth prime prizes but he (Leal) could not keep up the tempo as the other riders were hot on his heels.

The lead kept changing until the completion of the 28th lap when Dwayne Gibbs Jr jumped the pack and opened a small lead. However, he was kept in check by the peloton and with two laps remaining, Ambrose attacked but was followed by King who stayed on his (Ambrose’s) back wheel until approximately 125 metres from the finish line. King then moved to the outside and sailed past the soldier to win comfortably.
Warren McKay placed third, Jamal John fourth, Leal fifth and Paul DeNobrega finished sixth.
