-National Gymnasium to be transformed into war zone

THE National Gymnasium on Mandel Avenue is expected to be transformed into a war zone beginning tomorrow night and continuing to Thursday as the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) stages the Andrew `Six Head’Lewis National Novices Championships. Bell time is 19:00hrs.]
The war is anticipated to be between members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Gym and those from the Republican gym (Prisons), and when the Guyana Police Force’s Gym try to intervene, there sure will be brutal clashes between the three parties.
According to reports, over 75 boxers from 10 gyms are expected to participate with the GDF being the defending champions, but with the advent of several `out-of-town’ gyms emerging, the soldiers can be toppled.
GBA’s president Steve Ninvalle is confident that this year’s championships will not be a walk in the park for the defending champions (GDF).
According to reports, the Republican Gym has been hard at training and in the recent past, has given the Army its toughest challenge and three years ago, won the national novice title and will surely try to emulate that feat, starting tomorrow night.
The GBA has partnered with the National Sports Commission, COURTS Guyana Limited, Guyana Olympic Association, Trustee’s Pawn Shop and Delmur Shipping in order to make the tournament successful.
