Jury empaneled for Alboustown Old Year’s Day murder

A 12-member jury was on Monday empanelled before Justice Navindra Singh in the Georgetown High Court for the trial of Steve Allicock who allegedly murdered Wendell Tappin called “Wendell Teko” on December 31, 2009.

The state is being represented by Tuanna Hardy, Tameika Clarke and Gita Bissondyal, while the defence attorneys are Maxwell McKay and Debra Kumar.

It is alleged that on Old Year’s Day 2009, Wendell Tappin, 23, of 88 James Street, Albouystown, Georgetown was murdered at about 16:00hrs at Hill Street, Albouystown. Tappin was involved in an argument with another man who inflicted stab and chop wounds to his chest and escaped.
Tappin was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
He was stabbed and chopped to death during a row over a cell phone/battery. The case will commence on Wednesday at 10:00hrs in Court 3 before Justice Navindra Singh and a 12-member jury.Six witnesses are expected to testify.
